Hey {{first_name}} , it's Gerald.

I drove to Louisiana at 5:34 AM to visit Rich DeBerry at The Foundation Raw.

Why?

Because after years feeding Dobermans, I've learned one thing: what you put in your dog determines everything.

Their coat. Their energy. Their lifespan. Their vet bills.

And most people are feeding their dogs the equivalent of gas station hot dogs.

What to Expect in This Issue

  • Why dogs used to live 15-16 years (and now die at 9-10)

  • The real difference between kibble and raw (I did the side-by-side)

  • What I actually feed my dogs (puppies vs adults)

  • How to transition without destroying your dog's stomach

  • Where to get raw food that doesn't show up thawed

HE KIBBLE LIE

Here's what nobody tells you about kibble:

It's overprocessed garbage.

I don't care what brand. I don't care if it's "premium" or "grain-free" or has a wolf on the bag.

Kibble is one of the leading causes of cancer in dogs.

Why? Because it's cooked at insanely high temperatures, which destroys nutrients. Then they spray it with fat and flavor to make dogs want to eat it.

Your dog isn't absorbing nutrition. They're just shitting out expensive dust.

Look at this:

When I was at Rich's facility, we did a side-by-side comparison.

  • Hamburger meat from the grocery store: Gray. Powdery. Smells weird. Fat content over 20%.

  • Foundation Raw beef: Dark red. Fresh blood. Smells like meat. Fat content under 6%.

Which one would YOU eat?

That's what I thought.

"More energy - Sustained energy. Not that hyper crash-and-burn kibble gives them."

WHAT RAW ACTUALLY DOES

I've been feeding raw for 15 years. Here's what I've seen:

  • Less vet bills
My dogs aren't constantly dealing with stomach issues, allergies, or mysterious illnesses.

  • Cleaner teeth
No more nasty dog breath. Their teeth stay white.

  • Less poop
They poop every 12 hours instead of 3 times a day. Why? Because they're actually absorbing nutrients instead of passing processed filler.

  • Better coat
Shiny. Thick. Dark mahogany markings stay dark.

  • More energy
Sustained energy. Not that hyper crash-and-burn kibble gives them.

Dogs that eat raw live longer. Period.

30 years ago, dogs lived 15-16 years. Now you're lucky if you get 9-10.

What changed? The food.

WHY I USE THE FOUNDATION RAW

I used to buy tripe from Texas suppliers. Customer service sucked. Shipping was inconsistent.

Then I found Rich DeBerry.

Here's why I keep buying from him:

  1. Consistent product
Every batch is the same. Manufactured by a company that's been making raw food for 40 years (they used to supply racing Greyhounds).

  2. Variety
I'm not stuck with one blend. I can rotate between:

    • Heritage (my go-to)

    • Premium Beef

    • Venison (deer)

    • Bison

    • Ultimate (includes pollock for Omega-3s)

  3. Customer service
Rich answers his phone at 6 AM. You text him at 3 AM with a problem? He's calling you back. That matters when you're spending money.

  4. Ships frozen, arrives frozen
It ships on Monday. Gets to me Wednesday. Still frozen solid. Packed in styrofoam with dry ice.

I've been buying from him for years. No affiliation. I just refuse to feed my dogs low quality food.

HOW I ACTUALLY FEED MY DOGS

People always ask: "What's your feeding routine?"

Here's exactly what I do.

For Puppies:

I use Foundation Raw Complete Blend (has extra calcium for ear development).

My recipe:

  • 1/2 of a 2.5 lb tube (raw beef)

  • Gelatin powder (for ears)

  • Probiotic (gut health)

  • Collagen (cartilage support)

  • Coconut oil (coat)

  • Small amount of Inukshuk kibble mixed in

I'm mixing kibble with raw while he's young because:

  1. His stomach is still developing

  2. I'm transitioning him gradually

  3. The kibble adds crunch for his teeth

For adult dogs:

Titus gets a full 2.5 lb tube + supplements.

Brutus (my Rottweiler) just gets high-quality kibble because I don't need him getting any bigger. He's already a tank.

HOW TO TRANSITION FROM KIBBLE TO RAW

Don't just switch overnight. You'll destroy your dog's stomach.

Here's the process:

Week 1: Mix 25% raw with 75% kibble
Week 2: Mix 50% raw with 50% kibble
Week 3: Mix 75% raw with 25% kibble
Week 4: 100% raw

Your dog's digestive system needs time to adjust.

Pro tip: If you need to give your dog pills? Mix them in the raw meat. They'll never know.

With kibble, they eat around the pill every time. With raw, they inhale it.

WHAT SIZE TO BUY

Foundation Raw comes in:

  • 1 lb tubes

  • 2 lb tubes

  • 2.5 lb tubes

  • 5 lb tubes

For big dogs: Get the 5 lb tubes. Less defrosting.

For small dogs or trying it out: Get the 2 lb tubes.

You can cut them up, portion them, and refreeze. Shelf life is 3-5 days in the fridge (just like regular beef).

SUPPLEMENTS I USE

I don't just feed raw meat. I add:

  1. Coconut oil – Coat health

  2. Gelatin powder – Ear cartilage (for puppies)

  3. Collagen – Joint health

  4. Probiotics – Gut health

For (my puppy), I'm focused on getting those ears standing. So I load him up with gelatin and collagen.

For my adults, I focus on joint support and coat maintenance.

THE BOTTOM LINE

You wouldn't feed your kid McDonald's every day.

Why would you feed your dog the equivalent?

Raw food costs more upfront. But you save on:

  • Vet bills

  • Allergy treatments

  • Dental cleanings

  • Your dog actually living longer

NOT READY FOR FULL RAW YET?

I get it. Raw isn't for everyone right away.

When I mix kibble with raw (especially for puppies), I use Inukshuk 32/32.

This isn't pet food. It's performance fuel for working dogs: 32% protein, 32% fat. What sled dogs, police K9s, and sport dogs eat when they need high-octane energy.

Fair warning: This is for dogs that WORK. If your Doberman isn't training, running, or competing - this will make them fat. But if they're putting in work? This is what they need.

Raw is still #1. But when I need kibble? I'm not feeding garbage.

Until Next Tuesday,

Gerald
